Available Traps



Here are a selection of traps that can be found in different locations around the home:

Self-Sealing.
The self sealer is quite similar to the S-trap in terms of for and against points, but, they don’t lose their seal. This is great if it were fitted for a basin that is going to stand idle for a period of time. The trap should be fine to hand tighten, however a quick ¾ turn using a pair of pump pliers will make sure if there is any doubt. Never begin tightening with pliers as the plastic thread of the trap can be very easily mangled by the brass on the threaded waste. Any problems tightening can more than likely put down to cross threading.

S-Trap.
Widely used and preferred if the pipes are coming up from the floor below. This type of trap is very easily adjusted to fit the pipes. A Paddington Plumber fits this and all other types of trap.

Bottle Trap.
Great traps being neat and tidy but they are prone to easy blockage and their size (i.e. width) can sometimes prohibit fitting in a pedestal. You can however buy something called a mini bottle trap to fix this issue. There are traps with an adjustable height facility also which helps if the waste goes out of the wall. Paddington Plumbers use all types of fittings.

P-Trap.
More adjustments can be made with these. They often come with height adjustment, ideal if your fitting a new basin into an old position and are having trouble aligning the waste pipe work.

Straight-through Trap.
A very well designed item, which is configured so that the pipe for the waste actually runs down a path inside the actual body of the trap. Not as accessible as the S-type and difficult to access in a hurry.
