Change a tap (3 Tips)





1). When taps come as new, they will have what are called copper tails. Should this apply to you, it is recommended that they be replaced by flexi-connectors. It should save time and hassle. The base thread sizes for the domestic tap can be from 10mm to 12mm. It is therefore is a good tip to take one of the copper tubes to your merchant so they can supply you with correct flexi type. 2). One of the things that occur when anyone is dealing with these types of flexi pipework is to bend them too tightly and either restrict or stop altogether the water flow and stop the job. So make all the bends at very gentle angles and make sure that you don’t twist the flexi hose at the connection.

3). The main water supply drain cocks are usually situated under the sink in the kitchen. When you have isolated the water at this point, you need to open all the taps to release all the water, to empty the pipework. As soon as this is the case you can close the taps off. Don't do this if you've stopped the water to the taps with the isolation valves. If you've turned the water off for the whole house you need to open up all the taps and flush all the toilets to drain the system. Water is very sticky stuff and will just be suspended in the pipes whilst all the taps are closed. However, once the water is switched back on and a tap is opened or a toilet is flushed the water will race down the pipe work to find you stuck under the sink and you will get a nice cold shower.
